A baguette<\/a> has become a symbol of France for a reason, the origins of the oblong bread are closely linked to the country's history.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, during the French Revolution, a decree was issued that all people, rich or poor, must eat the same bread: \u201eFrom now on, all bakers must bake the same bread, the Bread of Equality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The iconic food became its ultimate form during the Napoleonic Wars, when soldiers could stuff their rations into the pockets of their uniforms. And the bread's light texture is a tribute to the hardy French workers who built the capital in the 1900s. To avoid armed confrontation, the city government ordered bread from bakers that could be cut without a knife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
