You can love it or hate it, but the media has an amazing impact on the world of gastronomy. It probably started with television, famous TV chefs and cooking competitions, but then social media, Facebook and especially image-based Instagram came into the picture, and suddenly viewers became creators, millions of people setting out to create something delicious and beautiful to photograph and post.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, food photos and food creations have become the most popular sector on Instagram.In February 2021 - and the month is not even over yet - the number of photos tagged with #food exceeded 430 million. If you divide that by 25, because today is the 25th, that's exactly 17,200,000 posts a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restaurant owners quickly realised the promotional value of social media and came up with beautiful, photographable food lines, even rearranging the d\u00e9cor to find better backgrounds for the photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instagram not only follows, presents and manages gastronomy culture. It's where we can find inspiration for tonight's dinner, find out where the best steak in town is, or learn new tricks for serving and design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can see that on Instagram, people are mainly focused on the visual, but there are other aspects. A survey shows that 44% of users prefer to follow food brands that are in harmony with their ethical values. There are many interesting things to learn from this kind of research, and the authors of this article were really curious to find out which cuisines and types of food are preferred by users of social media worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you look around Europe's big cities, you'll see that Japanese gastronomy is quite popular, but it doesn't come close to Chinese, Italian or Mexican. However, if we look at Instagram, we can see that the #japanesefood tag is the clear leader with 15 million hashtags, almost a full million ahead of silver medallist Italy. Indian cuisine is third with 8 million hashtags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first glance, the result seems incredible, since there are far more Chinese or Italian restaurants than Japanese, and far more people make pasta or curry at home than sushi. But that's where the fact that Instagram is all about the eye, all about beauty, comes in, and that's something the Japanese have figured out for hundreds of years. I don't mean Instagram, but that we always eat with our eyes first, and the presentation, the beauty, is as important as the taste. A beautiful Japanese dish is a real work of art, a work of art to be savoured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, although no pizza is ugly, there are many reasons for the Italians' silver medal. First of all, pizza and pasta are definitely among the top five most popular foods in the world, and no wonder, they are delicious. Secondly, Italy is the home of the arts, and the Italians have a mother's milk love of beauty, so beautiful presentation is also a priority.
