The team of the Faculty of Commerce, Hospitality and Tourism of the Budapest University of Economics and Business (BGE KVIK) won the Central and Eastern European Tourism Market Analysis Competition. The competition, organised for the first time by the STR SHARE Center, attracted teams from 19 countries. The students' task was made particularly difficult by the fact that the COVID pandemic has radically reshaped the hospitality and tourism industry. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, despite the difficulties, the future of the sector in this country is promising, as professional competitions<\/a> but they undoubtedly have an important impact on development and innovation. And the success of young people in international competitions is proof that tourism is not just a profession for them, but a vocation.<\/p>\n\n\n

STR SHARE Center, part of STR Hotel Industry Research, provides hotel and tourism data to support education and research in higher education institutions. This year, for the first time in 19 European countries, the organisation has launched a tourism market analysis competition with a total prize of \u20ac1 000. The BGE was presented by a team of 4 KVIK undergraduate and master students -\u00a0Nguyen Phuong Thao<\/strong>,\u00a0Csenge Moln\u00e1r<\/strong>\u00a0Anna<\/strong>,\u00a0J\u00e1zmin Balog<\/strong>\u00a0Eva<\/strong>\u00a0(Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality) and\u00a0Boutchichite Noura<\/strong>\u00a0(Master in Tourism Management). The preparation of the students for the competition was organised by the \u201eMITO Club\u201d, a talent management club at the Department of Business Analysis Methodology of the BGE KVIK, with the support of the Research Fund.\u00a0Kl\u00e1ra Karakas Mrs Dr. Morvay<\/strong>\u00a0(Department of Hospitality) and\u00a0Dr. \u00c9va Erd\u00e9lyi<\/strong>\u00a0(Department of Business Analysis Methodology, \u201eMITO Club\u201d professional leader). Despite the difficulty of the task, both the departments and the students did a good job, and not without a lot of effort.<\/p>\n

The task of the competition<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The task was to prepare a project to analyse and develop a foreign tourism market. The 4-person Hungarian team, consisting of bachelor and master students, BGE students, had several months to prepare, but the sudden changes resulting from the epidemic situation were a big challenge. The competition task was to prepare a 30-minute paper analysing a foreign tourism market based on data and criteria provided in advance. The BGE KVIK team chose Prague. In addition to analysing the situation, they had to make suggestions for improvements, ways forward and innovation in the market. Among other things, which parts of the city should be developed from a tourism point of view, which segments should be to focus on boosting tourism.<\/a><\/p>\n

The competition<\/h2>\n

Preparation of the entry and preparation for the competition started at the end of August. The students participated in weekly training sessions. They had to present their entries online in a 30-minute presentation on 5 November. The prestigious international jury was composed of hotel managers, tourism organisations and investment companies, who were able to ask the contestants impromptu questions during the presentation. This was also important because not only the preparation for the competition and knowledge of the topic, but also the general professional knowledge played a major role in the judging. After the results of the competition were announced and the BGE team came first, the main organiser stressed that the work was outstanding in both content and execution. The students donated the \u20ac750 first prize money to support further talent development programmes and competitions.#<\/p>\n
