A baguette has become a symbol of France for a reason, the origins of the oblong bread are closely linked to the country's history.

In fact, during the French Revolution, a decree was issued that all people, rich or poor, must eat the same bread: „From now on, all bakers must bake the same bread, the Bread of Equality.”

The iconic food became its ultimate form during the Napoleonic Wars, when soldiers could stuff their rations into the pockets of their uniforms. And the bread's light texture is a tribute to the hardy French workers who built the capital in the 1900s. To avoid armed confrontation, the city government ordered bread from bakers that could be cut without a knife.
