Just when you think you can't find a more extreme restaurant, you find one you never dreamed of. Imagination and needs know no bounds. Gastronomy is also an inexhaustible source of weirdness, but let's face it, the crazier the better.
The Ithaa
Mother of pearl. The name is apt, as the restaurant is located five metres below sea level. It is located on the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island in the Republic of Maldives. No small amount of engineering went into its creation. The 5 x 9 metre, largely acrylic structure can seat 14 people. Sitting at tables, it offers an astonishing 270° underwater panorama. It opened in April 2005, making it the world's first underwater restaurant. The entrance to Ithaa is a spiral staircase leading down from a thatched-roofed pavilion at the end of the pier. Going down astonishing guests are greeted by a spectacular view of the underwater world of the Indian Ocean. The sight of a multitude of colourful fish and the feeling of endless depths make it unique the dinner we had here.
This restaurant is best visited during the day, as only then can you see the wonder of the water, although the underwater spotlights around it can bring back some of the daytime experience. The restaurant is also used for private parties and weddings, as the handshakes here are a once-in-a-lifetime experience. In April 2010, to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Ithaa, the restaurant was booked as a night residence. Of course, as everywhere, the food served in the restaurant is constantly and seasonally changing. Mostly European-Asian cuisine is served, but there are unmissable dishes from the seafood.
Grotto Palazzese
The wonderful cave restaurant. Famous worldwide for being completely unique, it has been hailed as one of the most romantic restaurants in the world. It is located in Puglia, Italy, in the town of Mare, on the grounds of the Hotel Grotta Palazzese. The cliff-side venue is set inside a natural cave with views of the Adriatic Sea.at sea you can see. The cave has been used since the 1700s for parties, gatherings and events.
The restaurant is a summer cave, which means that it is only open during the summer, every day for lunch and dinner. The former is served from 12:30 to 14:30, the latter from 18:30 to 22:30. However, it is impossible to get in without a reservation, as tourists and food lovers from all over the world flock here. From the cave restaurant, it is amazing to watch the sunset, and it is no coincidence that every day there is a proposal, with a special menu and surprises. The Grotta Palazzese Ristorante is not only one of the most romantic, but also one of the most famous Italian restaurants. No one is allowed in casual, casual or beach attire, and shorts and sandals are forbidden for men. The cuisine focuses on Italian food, largely reflecting the culinary traditions of the Puglia region. There are two six-course tasting menus, but you can also ask for a la carte.
Barbie Cafe
The Barbie craze has been sweeping the world for almost fifty years, and generations have grown up in the pink and pink-sweet world. It's happened in Taiwan too, only there they're so passionate about it that they've even set up a cafe dedicated to the subject. The Barbie-themed spot, located in a shopping mall in Taipei, has been attracting a crowd since 2013. The café is a 660 square metre
everywhere is full of Barbie illustrations. It's no surprise that everything is pink, the walls, the furniture, the decorations, the cutlery and cups, even the coffee machines. Framed on the walls are a variety of Barbie outfits and accessories, outshone only by the pink glass chandeliers. The restaurant staff wear pink Barbie logo T-shirts with matching skirts, and are served with Barbie logo wristbands, glittery make-up and tiaras on their heads. The aim was to make them look as much like the toy characters as possible. If that weren't enough, the basic colour of the dishes is pink, in all shades of pink, and of course the decorations are inevitably decorated with hearts, just like the cutlery. It is a constant success, not only because families from the area come to this pink dream world, but also because it is an unmissable tourist attraction.
IceHotel
Blistering, bone-chilling cold, the realm of ice awaits those who want to try this unique experience in many parts of the world. The world's first ice hotel is located in Jukkasjärvi, just across the Arctic Circle. The odd thing is that most of these hotels have to be rebuilt year after year because they melt, but because it's so cold, they can create concrete walls overnight, so construction can go pretty quickly. It has a reception, banqueting hall, 35 suites, ice sculpture hall, ice chapel and ice restaurant. In fact, almost everything is „made of water”. In the guest rooms, soft furs are placed on the ice beds, where you can spend the night in the 4 - 7 degrees Celsius. There's no shortage of activities during the day, with ice sculpting, dog sledding and even a special polar yoga class.
In most cases, you can eat your meals on ice plates and sip delicious cocktails from ice glasses. One thing's for sure, there are no problems with chilling drinks. If you want to spend a few days in a hostel like this, you need to book well in advance, as space is limited. In any case, making a snowman under the twinkle of the aurora borealis and then eating a great steak afterwards can't be all bad fun.
