The Colorado Restaurant in Nyíregyháza is a popular restaurant not only among locals but also among visitors to the city. Thanks to its unique atmosphere, every guest can feel like they've just stepped into a real Wild West bar, where the steak is always crispy, the ribs super juicy and the beer ice cold!
The history of the western-style restaurant dates back to 2001, when owner-manager Szabolcs Halkó started a permanent restaurant with a hot kitchen in the centre of Nyíregyháza. Even then he thought it was worthwhile to have more than one leg to stand on, so he started a seasonal food truck-They also worked in the field of public inspection and public viewing.
From 2006 to 2015, the restaurant operated as the Igrice tavern and, as the name suggests, served mainly Hungarian food. After a complete renovation, the restaurant reopened in May 2015 as Colorado Steakhouse with a new identity. The entire interior is decorated in the Wild West style, with dark brown furniture, cowboy elements and leather upholstery dominating. The atmosphere is further enhanced by waiters in period-appropriate uniforms and country music playing in the background. The biggest attraction - apart from the impeccable food, of course - is the location, as the terrace is located on the shores of the picturesque Sóstó lake, making it the perfect choice for groups of friends, families or couples on a romantic getaway. At Colorado, the little ones are not forgotten either, with a play area of almost 20 sqm for the kids, making it a guaranteed relaxing time for their parents.

Sizzling steak and Hungarian malacságok
Although the menu design is largely parallel to the American line, the convent they have also kept a few local classics, such as the herring soup with snail noodles from Satu Mare, the catfish meat with cottage cheese and the Somló dumplings. In the last 5 years, nearly 60% of their turnover has been generated by carefully selected, quality steaks, which boast a unique selection in the area and are prepared in 14 different ways, including for meat lovers this place is a mecca. The crowd favourite among the steaks is definitely the Grand Canyon, crowned by the foie gras on top. Matusz- Wild and Szabolcs emphasized the always high quality and the reliability of their regional representative.

Despite a price-sensitive market, they expect a strong summer
Despite the fact that Nyíregyháza is becoming a more and more visited tourist destination thanks to the massive developments in recent years, they are not primarily targeted at tourists. As the population is much more price-sensitive than this time last year, they, like many restaurants, are in a difficult situation, but they are optimistic. According to Szabolcs, the mandatory registration law that will be introduced from July will also have an impact on the sector. In terms of workforce, he considers himself lucky, as they have a long-loyal staff thanks to the fact that no one has been made redundant during the Covid years.
Discover Nyíregy!
Nyíregyháza, the capital of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, offers many interesting and exciting sights for tourists. The first one worth visiting is the Sóstó Museum Village, which presents the 19th century village life of the Sabolcs. Visitors can learn about the life and culture of the old times, how people lived and worked, and what their homes were like.
The next attraction is the European-standard Nyíregyháza Zoo, where you can see more than 500 species of animals. Here you can see animals from all over the world, such as elephants, tigers, monkeys and crocodiles.
If you're fascinated by castles and the world of bygone eras, be sure to visit the Nyíregyháza City Hall. This imposing building was built in 1896 and has undergone many renovations since then. The castle houses permanent exhibitions on the history and cultural heritage of the city.
The most spectacular attraction is clearly the musical fountain, which was inaugurated last year and covers 500 square metres. The water feature follows the rhythm of the music, including Ferenc Erkel classics, Queen hits, fairytale and film scores, as well as Hungarian popular music. The fountain is able to display a dynamic water scene rarely seen in Europe, so you can see, for example, a tourist film of Nyíregyháza's town on the water feature.
