Edible flowers not only play a role in the world of food decoration, but also add exciting flavours and textures to our dishes. For chefs, they are not only an aesthetic asset, but also a creative and innovative tool for flavour development. Begonia

Did you know that this flower is edible? With a slightly sour taste, similar to lemon, it's perfect in fruit salads and sorbets. 

Yucca 

The yucca flowers are crispy, have a relatively sweet flavour and a hint of artichoke. They are excellent in salads.

Szegfű

It is most commonly used in the production of liqueurs, but its sweet petals can also be used in cooking, not only in sweet recipes such as biscuits, but also in savoury dishes. We recommend you try it in risotto. 

Daisy

The taste is not special, but the flower is edible and looks absolutely fantastic! Early. It goes without saying that the flowers must be fresh. The best time to pick them is usually early in the morning. Avoid flowers that are grown for ornamental purposes as they are not edible.

Ibolya

Delicate, mild mint flavour, delicious with salads and with fruit salads, and salty foods such as with pasta accompanied by. You can even eat the heart-shaped leaves, prepared in a similar way to spinach. 

Muscat

The common geranium has many uses in cooking: from omelettes to semifreddo, from wine to liqueurs, but fresh with cheeses, also excellent with ricotta, for example. 

Jasmine

Not just tea! Jasmine adds a very fragrant sweetness to desserts... 

Citrus fruits

All citrus blossoms are excellent from lemon to grapefruit and are so fragrant that they should only be used with care, otherwise they overpower the flavour of the food itself. 

Herbs

The flowers of many herbs are not only edible, but also very healthy and tasty. A typical example is marigolds: their reddish-gold, salty, peppery and pungent flavour can be an exciting addition to a variety of dishes.  

Pentecost rose / rose

From the Middle Ages onwards, its petals have always been popular in drinks, punches, lemonades and teas - it is particularly sought after in China. One of the most popular flowers, especially in cake-making. Some rose petals add fragrance, colour and poetry to even the simplest salad.

Pro tip! To candied the flower petals, you will need extra fine sugar, an extra fine brush and egg whites, whisked with a few drops of water. Brush them with egg white, sprinkle with sugar and leave to dry for 12-36 hours. 

Attention! There are many species of flowers that are often confused with edible types, possibly with the same common name, and can be poisonous, even seriously so. It is therefore important to be very careful. Many flowers, such as elderflowers, lose their fragrance when washed. It is better to shake them gently without using water to check for insects.
