The American doughnut and the world

Donut debates

There are many theories about the origin of the food. According to one legend, it was discovered by Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, on a fair day. She took the dish to her palace, asked her cooks to improve it and from then on it was eaten at every carnival and court party. The other story is about an angry baker who threw a portion of pasta at her customer in annoyance. This piece of dough flew into the hot oil and was fried. They loved the accidental „doughnut” so much that they made it consciously from then on. There are many other theories of origin besides these two. One could hear of sailors who made it easily on long voyages, or of nomadic traders who were constantly on the move with their caravans and could bake it quickly in the evening. Which is true and which is not, no one is likely to know.

Donuts have been with us for a long time, everyone knows them and they are undoubtedly one of the most popular, best-loved sweet pastries and always a hit.
