Churros are one of the most unique representatives of the diverse world of doughnuts. Technologically it belongs to the group of burnt doughs, but unlike the representative doughnut and the profiterole, the churros is cooked in a hot oil bath. Its Hungarian equivalent is the tolófánk, but it has a real tradition in the Iberian Peninsula, where it is a national treasure with deep roots in local culture and food customs. No Spanish fiesta or curvy night without churros! Thanks to its ingenuity, it has become a world food, and can be found in elegant restaurants and fairs. It's no wonder, this great pasta is great in both high gastronomic and street food environments!
The Spanish national sweet
In Spain, churros have a special place in the daily life of the population and in social gatherings. It is often eaten as a hearty breakfast or late morning dessert. If a Spanish person has a craving for churros, they certainly don't have to wander far for it: there is a street doughnut vendor or a traditional „churrería”, or churros bar, on almost every corner.
No matter how ordinary the dish, churros are a must for Spanish holidays - big summer festivals and intimate family gatherings are also a common way to enjoy this crunchy, sweet treat. Last but not least, young people usually round off a night of fun and curves with a morning churro.

Kitchen technology background
Although churros are basically a simple dish, as we all know in gastronomy, simplicity is the hardest thing to achieve. To hit the right doughnut dough, the temperature of the oil and the frying time require a thorough routine. Moreover, the preparation of the dough is not an easy task either, as the preparation of the burnt dough is a very delicate and sophisticated task.

A dessert that goes well together
Churros are traditionally rolled in cinnamon sugar and served with hot chocolate sauce. But the light, crunchy doughnut is delicious in many variations and ways. Good idea in winter you can experiment with other hot sauces: with rich vanilla custard, spicy forest fruit with casserole or with fresh, oriental ginger sauce. And as we move into the good weather, cool compotes, sophisticatedly flavoured cold yoghurt dips or even a variety of puddings are also on the menu.
Feel free to add fresh fruit to the churros, and whipped cream goes well with it. At winter fairs it's great with a mug of mulled wine or punch, and in summer at the beach with a fruity sangria (Spain...), cold cherry beer or a child- and car-compatible fruit juice, or even lemonade.
