The European football championship is about to take place. Postponed from last summer to this year because of the coronavirus epidemic, the European Championship is scheduled to take place from 11 June to 11 July in 12 major European cities, including Budapest.
The good news for Hungarian restaurateurs is that, under certain conditions, the public screening of the event is free of charge. Many establishments are preparing for the European Championships and will be offering special food and drink specials and special offers for those who want to cheer on the fans.
But what are these conditions?
If there is no commercial activity associated with the catering outlet or if it is a working sports bar that broadcasts sporting events on a daily basis and does not introduce any other activity during the football tournament (e.g. periodic area increase, admission fee, compulsory minimum consumption, sponsorship, etc.), the screening is free of charge.
In order to mitigate the economic impact of the Crown Virus outbreak, screening is free of charge even if an operational catering establishment with a capacity of 300 or less wishes to screen. However, the ban on other activities related to the event will still apply.

The public screening is subject to pre-registration, which can be done by sending an e-mail to kivetites@mtva.hu. MTVA will also be able to provide information on any other questions or comments regarding the screenings at this address. If the conditions for free admission are fulfilled, the catering establishment will receive an exemption licence after pre-registration.
