Outstanding personalities in the hospitality industry were honoured with the Pro Gastronomia awards again this year.

Pro Gastronomia Award

The Pro Gastronomia Award was founded in 2018 by Dr. Dénes Sándor, retired Associate Professor of the Department of Hospitality at the Budapest University of Economics and Business, Faculty of Commercial Catering and Tourism (BGE KVIK). The aim is to promote Hungarian gastronomy, to promote the catering eminent personalities of the profession and tPerformancerecognition of.

Who gets the award

Pro Gastronomia award four people can receive it each year. At the same time - as a youth award - a chef's jacket worn by Dr. Dénes Sándor was presented to a student who has achieved outstanding results in the field of gastronomy and has previously graduated from the BGE KVIK or its predecessor institutions. The prizes are awarded annually, and the recipients are chosen by the host, Dr. Dénes Sándor, the head of the Department of Gastronomy at BGE KVIK, and a person of professional standing, as determined by the two of them.

The aim of the Pro Gastronomia Award

Because people in the hospitality and tourism industry work 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, they rarely have time to celebrate. Nevertheless, it is an activity that millions of people enjoy. They do a job that requires a great deal of professionalism and perseverance. The Pro Gastronomia award is a recognition of the „everyday heroes” who are lifting up the domestic hospitality industry through their work.

Hospitality is hard work

These people work every day, on weekdays and holidays, putting food on the table. And gastronomy itself is a process of multiple pleasures. On the one hand, it is the pleasure of making food, of seeing how ingredients are transformed through cooking techniques into delicious dishes that are beautifully presented to give guests a delicious experience. The award winners are also a priority for the judges, who want to ensure that the winners come from different generations.
