The province of Şanlıurfa in south-eastern Turkey, with its rich culinary culture, is planning to open a new gastronomic centre to preserve and showcase the authentic flavours of the region to the public.
According to the head of the province, Zeynel Abidin Beyazgül, every effort is being made to have the flavours of Şanlıurfa recognised by UNESCO. They want to earn the title of „the oldest cuisine in the world”.

For this purpose, the municipality is renovating an old mansion near Balıklıgöl, the former house of Sakip Efendi. „We are opening a gastronomic and cultural centre that pays tribute to the local culinary tradition,” Beyazgül said.
The new centre welcomes Turkish and foreign tourists alike, and offers a chance to taste local specialities and see how they are made.
