Why we look forward to the festival

Due to events in the world, we have not had the Gourmet Festival for a long time. The celebration of hospitality has become a benchmark event, and anyone who has something to offer have a link to the profession, or its supporting sectors, has looked forward to this fantastic event year after year. Not just because it's the best restaurants and the most professional chefs, not just because it's a wonderful food you can taste. The Gourmet Festival is a community space, an event where we can meet each other. The theme of this year's event is all the more reason to do so, because it is about PEOPLE.

Between 27-29 May, the renewed Millenáris will once again become a meeting place for gastronomy fans, where - after a two-year break - the OTP Bank Gourmet Festival will once again be waiting for its visitors. The jubilee event - where, after two years of celebrations, the we can taste it all Hungary - again this year from everything offers the best, this time in the spirit of heritage.

Károly Gerendai: “Ten years ago we launched Gourmet with the aim of promoting quality gastronomy. The world has changed a lot in the meantime and there are now many exciting restaurants all over the country. Gourmet is an important milestone in this evolution, and we now struggle with the confusion of abundance when we invite exhibitors to the event. I am particularly pleased that, despite the challenges of recent years and the current difficulties, our exhibiting partners are enthusiastic and there seems to be a groundswell of interest from the public”.

What to expect from the festival

As before, there will be around 100 exhibitors at the festival. Almost 50 restaurants from all over the country will be represented, with some of the most exciting ones in the capital and a number of country classics and new gems. As always, there will be a fantastic line-up, and the public will be able to sample food that is rarely seen in everyday life. There will be no shortage of quality street food and great bakeries, as well as the best local wineries, distilleries and cocktail bars. There will also be champagnes, beers and coffee specialities on offer, and if you arrive early enough, you will also receive gift vouchers for tasting them.

Richárd Nemes, Chief Organiser of Gourmet: „While in previous years the focus has been on iconic dishes, ingredients and food and drink pairings, this year's Gourmet will be heritage. We feel that this theme both fits the festive atmosphere of the tenth event and reinforces values that are important to us, such as seasonality, localism and personality,” added the organiser. The main sponsor of the festival, OTP Bank, will also be offering a value-preservation service. Thanks to the unconventional theme, the offer will also be more colourful than ever.”

Programmes and events

As for the programmes, the Gourmet Academy offers workshops and demo cooking sessions every day for learning and fun. There will be performances by Tamás Széll (Stand), Szilárd Tóth (Salt), János Mizsei (MÁK), Richárd Farkas (Pajta), Lajos Bíró and Dani, but you can also take part in Kristóf Steiner's vegan workshop, Japanese noodle dumpling making or a gin and tonic tasting. There will also be dessert: beans, flodni and a masterpiece by Attila Menyhárt, pastry chef at Kollázs.

Sunday Children's Day Gourmet. The younger ones can bake and cook with stars such as Tímea Rosenstein, Szabi the Baker or András Wolf, and they will also have the chance to enjoy the Round Perec gastronomic playground and the Baby Playhouse. As education is also very important in the field of gastronomy, raising new generations is a very important part of the festival.

Charity at the Gourmet Festival

In addition to enjoying a unique gastronomic experience, the guests of the OTP Bank Gourmet Festival will also be able to do something for charity: on the molinos at the main entrance, drawings by young people with autism will be displayed, in connection with the gourmet theme. The original artworks can be bid on the Autistic Art online auction platform. The proceeds from the auction will support the work of the Autistic Art Foundation, which presents the unique works of people with autism to the world, helping them to live a life that is not an everyday one.

Zsófia Mautner: for me, heritage is basically family traditions and family history. My mother comes from the Great Plain and I brought from there the love of being in a village, of the village way of life. I really hope that with my 15 cookbooks I have left a morsel or two for the future.
