Anyone familiar with the gastronomic offerings of Venice, and who knows a thing or two about it, knows that the only place that represented quality cuisine was Groenk Deli. So far! But a few weeks ago, it was joined by Sweet Venice Bistro, which is not only trendy, but also unique and niche. Venice and its surroundings have always been an idyllic place, and now it's even better!

Quality and a parade of flavours

Many people do not need to be introduced to Venice „village” outstanding quality presenting its ice cream parlour. It's undoubtedly one of the best in the area, even if it doesn't have many competitors. The trend-setting yet classic ice cream parlour has evolved a little every year, but this time they've taken a big leap. Although the bistro's plan was not new, it has finally come to fruition. Along the winding, farmhouse-lined main street of Venice, which overlooks the church and the retro pub, a charming little place has appeared, which, in the high street, is a place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the old town. gastronomy basics was built. Sweet Venice is a bistro kitchen with a unique style, affordable prices and, most importantly, high quality.

How does a bistro get to the heart of Venice?

The chef, József Z. Weszely, had been planning to open the bistro for years with his childhood friend, Sebestyén Kármán, who owns the Sweet Venice confectionery, but a few things got in the way. COVID came along, then the crisis, and the realisation of the project was delayed, but now the picture has come together. We are not talking about a one-off restaurant, which implies a conscious building process. The owners say they will stay open as long as they can and the weather is kind to them. So a long-term project is coming to life that will clearly enhance the area's hospitality.

„Basically, we don't want to cater to tourists, we wanted to offer a place for people living in the area that offers affordable, quality gastronomy at value for money.”

Chef József Weszely

Like most top chefs, József Weszely has travelled the world in a career spanning almost 25 years. He has run kitchens on ships and in hotels, cooked for politicians, the Prince of Jordan and even Lionel Richie. He was at the top of the Budapest catering scene for many years, after which he decided to strike out on his own.

„I no longer wanted to be a chef who struggles with „politics”, with everyday life, with people. I just want to cook good food, which is the most beautiful part of my profession.”

What can we find at Sweet Venice Bistro?

It has already been revealed that it has a bistro kitchen. But Sweet Venice is more than that. The concept is that there are no menus, no monthly or weekly menus. Instead, there are 5 or 6 dishes a day on the menu board. The chef gets up in the morning, goes to buy the ingredients and decides there and then what he will prepare that day. Creative, skilled and rooted in years of experience, this is true hospitality.

„What I feel, I cook.”

When you taste quality food prepared with heart and knowledge, you will experience a whole different universe. That's what they represent, and what's important to them is that you leave the table smiling. Nothing fancy, just lightly. You can eat in or take your food away. Anyone can come in, backpack or dressed up, there's something for everyone.

For us, Venice is Lake Balaton. We want to show local people what food made with care really means. Maybe you could say we want to educate our guests.”

In addition to the gastronomic concept - a bar

There's no question that the restaurant needs a good bar. Naturally, this includes the right coffee, draught beer, cocktails and wines. On the other side of the bar is Noé Kármán, who told us that the most important thing for him is to present local wines. This is no coincidence either, as the bistro is part of the Etyek-Buda wine region and offers some excellent lots.
