The Tornácos restaurant and its associated catering complex started as a small family-run business in 1996 and has slowly grown to become one of the most visited destinations in the area. Chef Zsolt Ferkis, with more than 20 years of experience, joined the team in January, giving the restaurant a new boost.

The Tornácos is located not far from Sopron, close to the beautiful scenery of nature and surrounded by vineyards. The building itself is stunning - the rustic but modern design blends perfectly with the historic setting, and the restaurant has a huge terrace with fantastic views of the countryside. They are doubly lucky in terms of location, with the cycle path right next to them and the thermal baths of Bergkő nearby, which means that they are popular with foreign tourists as well as Hungarian guests.

A Tornácos étterem csapatához januárban csatlakozott Ferkis Zsolt, aki izgalmas fogásokkal színesítette a nemzetközi étlapot.

International menu, Hungarian catering

With plenty of cross-border visitors, the menu is designed to cater for all tastes. This is how grilled meat can be served side by side Steak, the Mediterranean risotto, the chicken paprikash with cottage cheese dumplings and the inevitable Hungarian classic, the cottage cheese dumplings. Among the crowd favourites are the with sweet potatoes served from duck breast, the special marinade-matured roast meat and light seasonal salads. With Zsolt's arrival, the menu has changed almost completely, keeping in mind previous preferences and tried and tested dishes. However, prices have been set to ensure that locals can still enjoy a delicious family lunch or dinner. The menu is changed twice a year, but to ensure that the short-season ingredients are not overlooked, a monthly special is also prepared, currently featuring homemade lecsó, fruit cream soup and cod steak received instead. Many of the ingredients used are vegetables and herbs grown in their own gardens, which not only guarantees freshness, but also plays an important role in sustainability. If you want to take some of the Tornácos' produce home, you're in luck, as several products from local small producers are available for takeaway, strengthening the regional partnership. So you can take home some delicious syrups, jams and, of course, wine.

A worse season, but more demanding guests

In line with the opinion of chefs outside the capital, Zsolt also believes that unfortunately the busier days are clearly reduced to weekends, with only occasional full houses on weekdays. He stresses, however, that he is seeing a growing demand for really high quality food, in contrast to the past when quantity was more important. However, there is no reason why you can't have a good stay here, so if you are looking for a safe place to stay in the Sopron area, you won't be disappointed!
